Today we surely slept in. Mosquitos eating me alive, knee is of and on sore b/c I'm pushing it with all the walking and hiking per doctor orders. I do Physical Therapy, flexibility exercises, and meditation every morning. It is so peaceful and I start the day positive. I had started my laundry yesterday b/c I have no clothes left. Nikki's mom is so sweet, even though they have a washer, each process of the wash has to be watched and then the dry is by hanging and she handled it all so I could have clothes today. My next load I will do though :) I made breakfast, and having a gas stove I tried to figure it out but Nikki just lit it for me and I made scrambled egg with mushrooms, onions, pepper, and tomato. I warmed the pita; just like mom makes pulka at home! We were able to bring back all the extra food from Tobago. I think Tobago wants to be its own country b/c they are under the shadow of Trinidad and Trinidadians introduce themselves as that versus Trinbagonians. I added grapes and a small chicken for myself. The grape juice here has a sour/sweet taste.
Today Andre picked us up. We saw him at work out east. Then saw his racing car. I got to tour La Platta Garden, a community of homes for individuals with low income. An elder asked why I was taking a picture of him when I was taking a picture of scenery, and he asked not to be in it and ran of. After,, I had some curry (yes it is Indian) and I had Dhalpurre which is bread with grind split peas in it with some spice and paratha roti/called bussupshat). Andre, Nikki, and I then tackled the question, do you take a give from someone who you have assisted through work/business whether a small or large sum? Is it ethical? What are your thoughts? We did come to a realization that societies perception of individuals impacts how we act and our decisions in sometimes a positive but mostly negative way, which is sad. Following societal norms puts us in a box-to think outside of a box and advocate for that type of lifestyle and way of thinking can become lonely at times. We also discussed how skin color, even in Trinidad, India, Kenya, etc, is still a subconscious and conscious administrator towards how one is treated. This related to the idea of bleaching which has become the norm to lighten skin color such that a "positive" treatment can be given. After this talk Nikki and I asked where we can find non-dairy ice-cream which ended up being called jello as a joke.
We met up with Nikki's friend Carlene and hung out and chatted some more and then came home.
New words: "bumsee" A good/appropriate/less vulgar way of saying ass.
